Benefits of Compost Home gardeners have longed to have the rich dark cake-like soils that they see in gardening magazines and on gardening shows. What they often don’t realize is that this soil has been created over time. Professional horticulturists understand the value of adding quality organic amendments to the soil for many different reasons. Some of these reasons are to change the soil structure to improve drainage, improve the oxygen levels in and around the roots, and to create a better overall soil structure for plant growth. Another benefit, depending on the type and source of soil amendment, is the level of nutrients the compost can add to the soil for plants to use as food. Not all compost is created equally. Compost varies from product to product. The compost that Brightside offers is municipal compost. About Compost MUNICIPAL COMPOST is a mixture of leaves, chipped tree limbs, and yard waste from various cities, composted into an earthy, well mixed organic amendment that any home gardener would be happy to use on their garden. This product has become available because many cities decided to recycle yard and park waste, rather than throw the stuff into the dump at great cost. The greatest value of compost is in the organic matter, which can act as a nutrient buffer and improve the soil structure for a year or two after application.

Millers Folly: 3rd Thursday Concerts at LNC
Millers Folly is a Louisville-based bluegrass band that has been playing in this area since 2013. Traditional bluegrass music is our thing featuring fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and the upright bass. Our song selection is heavily influenced by Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Flatt & Scruggs and several other legends of the genre. Just for fun, though, you might catch us throwing in the occasional tune by the Rolling Stones or Guns and Roses! But even then, it’ll sound like traditional bluegrass because of our style of play. Be sure to visit our website at MillersFolly.com or like us on Facebook. You can also find our songs on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and other popular streaming sites. We look forward to meeting you and hope to see you soon at one of our gigs. The LNC concert series has a great listening-room vibe. Suggested donation of $10 at the door. Mocktails and snacks will be available. Learn more...
