Fête in the Forest Concert & 30th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrate Olmsted Parks Conservancy's 30th anniversary with a little New Orleans flair on September 14 at Fête in the Forest. For 30 years, Olmsted Parks Conservancy has connected nature and neighborhood – investing more than $40 million into Louisville’s 17 historic Olmsted Parks (including Cherokee, Seneca, Iroquois, Shawnee, Tyler, Victory and more) and 6 Parkways (like Eastern). And on September 14, we are throwing a party you won’t want to miss. Presented by the Trager Family Foundation, the Fête in the Forest concert at Iroquois Amphitheater will feature an unforgettable performance by Preservation Hall Brass Band (the resident brass band of New Orleans’ most treasured Jazz venue) comprised of members of Great Olympia, New Birth, Tornado, and Young Tuxedo bands. For a $50 donation, you’ll get (1) a ticket to the concert, (2) a limited-edition Iroquois Park t-shirt (designed by CricketPress) and (3) a one-year membership to Olmsted Parks Conservancy, which helps us continue to enhance, restore, and protect our historic Olmsted Parks system or many years to come. The Big Table - World's Largest Potluck!

Imagine two thousand Louisvillians simultaneously sharing an intimate dinner with a few neighbors. Imagine tantalizing food and even more intriguing stories. Imagine the happy excitement you feel when you connect with a new friend. Magical things happen when people get together for a meal. They eat. They talk. They connect. In a time with many opposing points of view, we need real dialogue and respectful spaces to come together as neighbors. This is what we’re hoping to create with The Big Table. At the event, people will be organized into tables of 8, some of whom will be unfamiliar. Table Hosts will help facilitate conversation among the group. We’ll share stories about the food we bring, about meaningful tables, about our lives, about ourselves. There will be no central stage or entertainment schedule. The only goal will be to engage with each other, and leave as friends rather than strangers. And we will make history as the largest potluck in the World!

Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. He continues to tour regularly, performing shows worldwide with the dark and horror-themed theatrics that he’s best known for. With a schedule that includes six months each year on the road, Alice Cooper brings his own brand of rock psycho-drama to fans both old and new, enjoying it as much as the audience does. Known as the architect of shock-rock, Cooper (in both the original Alice Cooper band and as a solo artist) has rattled the cages and undermined the authority of generations of guardians of the status quo, continuing to surprise fans and exude danger at every turn, like a great horror movie, even in an era where CNN can present real life shocking images. Despite their increasing prevalence, eating disorders receive significantly less funding than other major mental illnesses, and support options are often inaccessible. As a result, too many families are left feeling helpless, hopeless, and frightened – this is where we come in. Through NEDA Walks, we are raising critical funds, restoring hope, and changing the conversation surrounding eating disorders.Learn more.......

Gates open at 6:30PM and no tickets are required. Parking is free. Come early! There is potential that this performance will reach capacity. In a program for the entire family, Teddy leads the LO in a wide variety of music including classical (Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák), bluegrass (Pando by Jeremy Kittel), traditional (Amazing Grace), and film (Star Wars by John Williams). The concert closes with the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. For the first time, the LO plays Strum by Jesse Montgomery, a New York-based violinist and composer. Affiliated with the Sphinx Organization, a group that supports the accomplishments of young African-American, Latino, and minority string players, Ms. Montgomery has been Composer-in-Residence with Sphinx Virtuosi since 2012. Strum is written for a strings-only ensemble. The work shows off the textures and drama available to the largest section of an orchestra – the string family of instruments. Stepping into the spotlight for solo performances will be LO musician Julia Noone and local favorite Ben Sollee. An accomplished classical violinist, Ms. Noone is also a fierce and fiery fiddle player. She is featured on Jeremy Kittel’s Pando. Mr. Sollee, cello and vocals, performs his own original works with LO. Tickets for Upcoming LO Performances Discounted season packages are still available for the Louisville Orchestra’s many concert series. The Signature Classics, Pops, and Coffee Concerts are all presented at the Kentucky Center with the LO performing unique and adventurous programs to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences.
