Louisville Orchestra Preview Concert

FREE CONCERT KICKS OFF NEW SEASON Teddy Abrams Conducts on Saturday September 7 at Iroquois Amphitheater The Louisville Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director Teddy Abrams, presents a free concert on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 8:00PM at the Iroquois Amphitheatre sponsored by Brown-Forman and LG&E. Gates open at 6:30PM and no tickets are required. Parking is free. Come early! There is potential that this performance will reach capacity. In a program for the entire family, Teddy leads the LO in a wide variety of music including classical (Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák), bluegrass (Pando by Jeremy Kittel), traditional (Amazing Grace), and film (Star Wars by John Williams). The concert closes with the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. For the first time, the LO plays Strum by Jesse Montgomery, a New York-based violinist and composer. Affiliated with the Sphinx Organization, a group that supports the accomplishments of young African-American, Latino, and minority string players, Ms. Montgomery has been Composer-in-Residence with Sphinx Virtuosi since 2012. Strum is written for a strings-only ensemble. The work shows off the textures and drama available to the largest section of an orchestra – the string family of instruments. Stepping into the spotlight for solo performances will be LO musician Julia Noone and local favorite Ben Sollee. An accomplished classical violinist, Ms. Noone is also a fierce and fiery fiddle player. She is featured on Jeremy Kittel’s Pando. Mr. Sollee, cello and vocals, performs his own original works with LO.
