Louisville is craft. Craft venues, craft food, craft music, craft art, craft entertainment, craft beer, and so much more have helped put our city on the map. All of these elements come together one night a year to celebrate the culture of a city and the fight for a cure. While CRAFT began as a small group of people looking to do their part to cure cystic fibrosis, it has grown into one of the premier parties in the entire city. But it’s not just any party. It’s a party with a purpose! We’ll splurge on pizza from the best pizzeria’s in the city, sip on craft beer from local breweries, drink Kentucky bourbon, and dance the night away to raise money that will help bring an end to this awful disease. 100% of the proceeds from this event are donated to local and national cystic fibrosis research efforts.   Learn more......

“Compassion at the Core: Toward a More Human City”

“Compassion at the Core: Toward a More Human City” is one of five free session open to the public as part of the Congress for New Urbanism conference in Louisville from June 11-15. What does it mean to be a compassionate city? Is it something that can be built into the ethos and the design of a community? Since taking office in 2010, Mayor Greg Fischer has made compassion one of the pillars of his administration, and Louisville has become a leader in the Compassionate City movement. Much of the inspiration of this work has derived from the spirit, principles and the humanity of Muhammad Ali, Louisville’s most renowned native son. His torch continues to burn even after his death through the efforts of his wife Lonnie Ali and the millions of people across the globe who continue to see him as a beacon of light and compassion. Hear from both Mrs. Ali and Mayor Fischer as they discuss the inspiration and the evolution of Louisville as a City of Compassion. Join us as well in recognizing the 2019 Legacy Projects that CNU sponsored with local Louisville neighborhood groups and volunteer design teams in four different neighborhoods this past March.

This session provides an appropriate setting to discuss the question: With new data and information at hand, how can we holistically integrate and prioritize improved community health and wellness into the design of our communities? The Congress for New Urbanism has for three decades an advocate for smarter growth methods, believing that well-designed cities and neighborhoods are crucial for our health, economy, and environment. Louisville, Kentucky is currently serving as a laboratory for some of the nation’s most promising initiatives on community health and wellness. Bringing together a mix of perspectives on this issue from the design, medical, environmental, and community health fields to discuss this important issue will be valuable to breaking down the barriers among these fields, leading to a highly collaborative and fully integrated approach.

Operation Bravo Zulu 75th D-Day Anniversary

Honor Flight Bluegrass “Operation Bravo Zulu” to Honor Veterans on 75th D-Day Anniversary Seventy-five years ago, on June 6, 1944, United States (US) forces led the Allied Nations in the largest amphibious invasion in history—Operation Overlord, known as D-Day. Over 73,000 U.S. soldiers and marines set in motion, the final phase of World War II (WWII), risking their lives to preserve and protect the freedoms we enjoy today in America. On June 6, 2019, in a very special and memorial event, Honor Flight Bluegrass will honor these American heroes who served in WWII with a celebration at Louisville Memorial Auditorium, an historic site that was built to commemorate those who fought in WWI. This special celebration “Operation Bravo Zulu” (Thanks for a job well done!), will feature honored guest, 95-year-old WWII Medal of Honor recipient, Hershel “Woody” Williams, who will join his fellow WWII Veterans on this historic day. He will lead the ceremony with 75 or more WWII Veterans and their families as we recognize and pay tribute to these members of the “Greatest Generation.” Included in the program are exhibits, the Ladies for Liberty singing troupe, the Don Krekel Orchestra and a special recognition of each WWII Veteran. Blessings in a Backpack 0.5K

The Blessings in a Backpack 0.5k — that’s not a typo, our “race” is in fact 0.5k and affectionately known as The Running Event for the Rest of Us — is created for folks who are NOT ready to go the extra mile. In fact, they aren’t even willing to go a mile at all, and actually barely even a quarter mile... but they are willing to have fun and poke fun at themselves, all while raising money for a great cause — Blessings in a Backpack! This tongue-in-cheek event will not only lampoon the typical 5k, but incorporate an incredible birthday party every step of the way (think cupcakes, balloons, balloon animals!) to celebrate Blessings’ 10th birthday and a decade of feeding kids on the weekends. The race will begin and end with your typical birthday foods and beverages. And at the halfway point, if you’ve burned through all your energy (that's .15 miles in), a cupcake and hydration station will be available for an all important carb reload. There will also be a medical tent... because 546 yards is nothing to take too lightly. All finishers will receive t-shirts, participation ribbons, and ‘pretentious’ oval Euro-style 0.5k stickers, plus promo materials from our all amazing sponsors (that could be you!). There will also be a VIP ticket experience — which gives you the option of hitching a ride to the finish line.SIGN UP NOW!

Kentucky Shakespeare: Henry IV Part II

Henry IV, Part II explores the precarious friendship of Prince Hal and Falstaff. The play is the third installment in the “Game of Kings” series, which wraps up with Henry V in 2020, the Festival’s 60th season. The production will again feature original music from Wax Fang’s Scott Carney. “This play is a little detour from the wartime saga, and it easily stands on its own. It’s irreverent, funny, and deeply human – I can’t wait to show our audiences this different side of everyone’s favorite fat knight,” said director Amy Attaway. GRL Hall of Fame Opening Reception

KMAC and Girls Rock Louisville are pleased to announce the Girls Rock Louisville Hall of Fame Project. Together, local mentors, artists, and current and former Girls Rock Louisville campers developed a critical and aesthetic understanding of the contributions of women and non-binary artists in music history. We view rock and roll as a way to forge our own artistic paths over a singular style or genre. The goal of this exhibition is to expand our community’s understanding of the formative roles women and non-binary musicians have played in our musical landscape. It is also a reflection of how these young artists have come to see themselves in music history, and how they will choose to rewrite it. With regard to KMAC's mission to connect people to art and creative practice, this collaboration with Girls Rock Louisville will highlight one of the museum's core values, offering transformative experiences for everyone that spark curiosity, inspire meaningful connections, and foster a deep sense of inclusion, belonging, and purpose. This exhibition is free and open to the public. Learn more.....
