MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR BREAKFAST

The KING BREAKFAST is an annual event sponsored by the Louisville section of the National Council of Negro Women in recognition of the King Holiday and King's legacy and work for justice. The theme is "The Year of Our Youth" and the guest speaker will be Dr. Ricky Jones, Chair of the Pan-African Studies Department, University of Louisville. There will also be musical selections and poetic expressions, in addition to vendors. Admission is $40 donation with advance payments. (Tickets will not be sold at the door). Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at Muhammad Ali Center

Time: 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Date:  Monday, Jan. 21 Location: 144 N. 6th St. Details: Showing of the “I have a Dream” speech, every hour on the hour. Following the 11 a.m. screening, members from the Ali Center’s Youth Programs will participate in a forum, sharing how they, as youth, are continuing the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the work he committed his life to. Pizza will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis to all guests attending the 11 a.m. screening by Papa Johns. Cost: Admission to exhibits, $14, $13 seniors, $10 students and military, $9 for ages 6-12; screenings are free.

Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Date: Jan. 21 Location: Boone Square, 1935 Rowan St.  Details: The MLK Day of Service is a way to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into a community service. Help make the community’s parks extraordinary and make it “A Day On, Not a Day Off!” Tasks include: mulching, planting and general beautification.
