The Frazier History Museum and Kentucky Opera present: Welcoming Our Heroes Home: Bridging the Divide Tuesday October 1st, 2019, 5PM - 8PM5:00 PM – Informational resources for Veterans6 to 8 PM – Interactive panel discussion and performances Join us for this evening of discussion with local veterans sharing their personal experiences. Featuring the following Panelists and Special Invited Guests: Special Invited Guests: Betty Stone, Spouse of Battery C Veteran, Skippy Stone Jeff Thoke, Honor Flight Lindsay Gargotto, Athena’s Sisters Panelists: Artillerymen Don Parrish & Tom Raisor, Veterans of Battery C Carolyn Furdek, Veteran and Author, Locked-In Jeremy Harrell - Founder / Chairman of Veteran’s Club, Co-Chair of VCAL. Heather French Henry, Veterans’ Advocate Morgan Smith John Miles III, Veteran Coordinator, Office for Veterans, Louisville Metro Government Joseph Mechavich, Opera Conductor and Kentucky Opera Artistic Advisor An evening of conversation, camaraderie, and live performances exploring the journeys of local combat veterans, their families, and a community that welcomes them home. This discussion inspired by Kentucky Opera’s upcoming performances of Glory Denied, based on the story of Colonel James Thompson, America’s longest held surviving prisoner of war. Upon returning home from Vietnam 9 years after his capture, Thompson was greeted only by his wife, Alyce. Neglected by his country, forgotten by his young children, Glory Denied is the achingly beautiful story of Jim and Alyce’s painful reunion in the aftermath of war.
