Responsible Revitalization Symposium

Friday, September 13th, 5:30pm - 8:30pm The Responsible Revitalization Symposium will begin on Friday at 5:30 with dinner, followed by 2 hours of table conversations on the topic of equitable development. This facilitated conversation between West End neighborhoods will explore priorities for development, residents' understanding and concerns regarding current policies, and the vision for more equitable, inclusive processes leading to holistic community development.Saturday, September 14th, 7:30am - 3:30pm Registration will begin at 7:30 with provided continental breakfast. At 8:30am, The New Millennium Howard Players are performing Hope L. Price-Lindsay's play about gentrification, The Intruders. The morning continues with presentations about the national and local trends seen in revitalization work, particularly focused on equity, from Dr. Alexander von Hoffmann of Harvard University and Dr. Lauren Heberle of the University of Louisville. A peer city representative panel will talk about their revitalization process, and bring light to best practices we could adapt here in Louisville. Rev. Dr. Elaine Flake will deliver a special luncheon keynote address, on the topic of equity-focused policies and practices that Greater Allen AME Church and Greater Allen Community Development have utilized in the Jamaica neighborhood in Queens, New York. She and others have tirelessly championed community leaders and brought about change that truly benefits their community. The afternoon will focus on policy and actionable steps we can take here in Louisville. These panel sessions will talk about our ability to change the status quo in our own city, and help us move forward to create a community plan to achieve these goals.Learn more.......or you can email info@onewest.org
