A guided conversation involving residents and police aimed at generating ideas on how we can strengthen our relationships. Is this just another conversation? No, these sessions are different in that each session will result in ideas from residents and police. These ideas will be then be processed and used to develop a strategic plan for strengthening police and resident relationships and for making our community safer. How long are the sessions? Sessions will last about an hour and a half. Who can come? The sessions are open to the public. Do I need to sign up? No, however, we will only be able to accommodate 40-50 participants per session, so please show up on time to ensure you have a seat! What is the Synergy Project? The Synergy Project has been created to strengthen relationships between Louisville Metro Police and residents to increase collaboration grounded in trust and legitimacy. By bringing together people from all parts of the community – residents, academia, business, youth, faith-based organizations, law enforcement, and political leaders – this project creates an opportunity for police and community to work together in a safe, open, and respectful environment to identify root causes of distrust and find actionable solutions to move us forward. To enhance relationships and trust between law enforcement and community we will explore the tensions that exist between the significant societal values of Public Safety and Public Trust and determine how to create and maintain a balance between the two. Exploring these tensions will empower us to mobilize actions for city-wide systemic change so we all thrive. With each step we will build greater understanding and agreement. We are at a pivotal moment in our country as it relates to community trust of historical systems and institutions. To do nothing is unacceptable; to engage in a journey that will be challenging, risky, and has the potential to inform generations is our responsibility. Below are a few issues and needs we have identified; however, we will collaborate and discuss other issues and needs together.
