From The Sea

Hilliard Lyons Coffee Series: From the SeaFRI 11 OCT 2019: Dive into this beautiful concert about the watery world. Sea nymphs, wind, waves, and water have inspired composers and film-makers to create masterpieces of orchestral music. Loosely translated as “nymphs of the waves,” Finnish composer Jean Sibelius wrote his tone poem in 1913 evoking the icy depths and the low horizon of a northern seascape. Just 8 years earlier, French composer, Claude Debussy wrote his masterful work La mer evoking the many moods of the sea from playful and tranquil to fiercely terrifying. We are proud to present the world premiere of a work by award-winning composer Garth Neustadter. Written for marimbas, xylophones, and pianos with a breath-taking film created by Kjell van Sice, Seaborne is newly revised to include a string orchestra.CONCERT TALK: Starting at 10AM in Whitney Hall, the LO, together with WUOL, offers a free, pre-concert discussion hosted by radio program direction Daniel Gilliam. The Concert Talk features Julia Noone, assistant concertmaster of the Louisville Orchestra in a 30-minute conversation.
